  5. RM/plusDB, the transparent gateway between RM/COBOL applications and popular
  6. relational databases such as ORACLE and Informix, takes advantage of the
  7. client-server architecture of the RM/COBOL runtime environment to bridge the
  8. generation gap between 3GLs and 4GLs. Existing RM/COBOL applications can be
  9. quickly and easily modified to utilize RM/plusDB many times with only slight
  10. source-code modification. RM/plusDB directives do not interfere with embedded
  11. structured query language (SQL) calls, but provide additional capability. The
  12. COBOL application can use standard ANSI file input statement to transparently
  13. retrieve and modify data stored in a relational databases management system
  14. (RDBMS). Developers can concentrate on using advanced RDBMS/4GL query and
  15. reporting features, rather than spend time rewriting entire COBOL applications.
